Local services include:
Buses connecting Uvita to other parts of the country.
Domestic flights from the nearby Palmar Sur and Quepos airports.
Boat services for exploring the Pacific coastline and surrounding islands.
The town is also poised to benefit from the development of the Metropolitan International Airport of Costa Rica, a transformative project that will enhance regional connectivity:
In July 2017, Mott MacDonald delivered the masterplan for the new USD 3.5 billion Orotina San Jose International Airport, commissioned by the Centro American Corporation of Air Navigation Services (COCESNA).
In June 2017, Costa Rica's government formally approved the project, with the initial USD 1.9 billion phase expected to handle 7.8 million passengers annually in a 128,000 sqm terminal by 2027.
The airport will span three phases, with an ultimate capacity of 50 million passengers annually and 460,000 sqm of terminal and facilities space. Financed externally and developed through a public-private partnership, this project positions Costa Rica as a global travel hub.
This development, located near Orotina in the Alajuela province, is set to bring the Pacific Coast closer to international markets and facilitate greater accessibility to areas like Uvita.
